Avi is a Paint / QH gelding, 11 years old, 17hh. He has a lovely chocolate brown color with white socks, a while face blaze, beautiful muscles and a spectacular bright tail.
This is a horse with a sweet disposition, who thrives on kind human contact, gentle training and clear aids, and who enjoys the work of riding, leading and lunging. He puts his head down into the halter when it is held for him to come to a session. He leads relaxed and quietly, backs up lightly on lead line and moves hips or shoulders on a gentle request.
Avi is currently being ridden Western by his trainer and English by his owner's granddaughter. He has an English trot and canter, and has been jumped up to three feet.
He responds to indirect rein and steers well with light leg aids. Needs direct rein only for corrections. Can be ridden one or two handed. Rides in a mild snaffle bit.
Avi walks, trots and canters from light requests, is responsive to up and down transitions, and can depart into canter from stop, walk or trot. He has a nice big extended trot and a powerful, hindquarters-driven canter, can gallop in a larger arena, and is now being trained to take up a Western jog. He offers a relaxed head position at all gaits and is ridden on loose rein. He is a calm horse – he can stand quietly under saddle for extended periods and is able to come right back to a relaxed walk or stop after trot or canter.
He maneuvers smoothly to perform large and small circles at all gaits, rides with straightness anywhere across the arena, and does serpentines at walk, jog and trot. Can turn on forehand, turn on hindquarters, and is starting to sidepass and combine lateral maneuvers. Will stop and back up on light aids and you can open gates from the saddle.
Has experience with Western spurs, but expects light use for corrections only. Can be ridden without spurs.
Ground ties, cross ties or can tie with lead rope for grooming and tacking.
Partial or (ideally) full lease available with some reservations for owner's daughter.
